Project 10 Pan (Sorta) | The Products I’m Using Up in 2021

So for those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, it’s a project where you aim to use up 10 products throughout a set time. There are a number of rules to go alongside it, some of which I’m following and some I’m not, but in essence it’s aim is to hep you love and use the makeup you already own rather than filling your collection with loads of new items.

While I don’t think she was the first person in the world to come up with the idea, the idea (to me) comes from Emma’s Rectangle over on YouTube. If you don’t know who she is, I hugely recommend going to check her out!

The Rules

First and foremost, the first place to start… the rules! You pick 10 items from your collection in a varying style of used states and in a variety of different products (for this I’m focusing on makeup). The aim is to use all of these 10 items up. When you finish one of your project 10 pan items, you add another item from your collection into the mix- this helps keep the challenge going throughout the year! The project finishes when all 10 of the original items are finished… or when 2021 ends.

Now there is a rule to this that I’m not following, and that’s the rule that you don’t buy any new makeup until the project is finished. Realistically not only do I like buying new makeup and in a time like this we need the little things. But also I don’t get a lot of PR and I’ll want to pick things up to keep the blog and my life feeling fresh!

Now the initial 10 products…

NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer

I’ve really enjoyed using this primer periodically over the last few months and so I feel like it’s about time I commit to using it up! I find I actually rotate through primers fairly well and so it feels like a good option to add in as number one in my Project 10 Pan for 2021

Dior Backstage Foundation

It feels a bit risky putting this in here considering Emma had this in her Project 10 Pan and she said she’s really struggled to finish it! However, it’s probably the oldest foundation in my collection and so I probably need to finish it up! It is actually a really nice foundation and so I’m looking forward to it (for now). As it has an opaque bottle (and so who really knows how much is left) I’m going to weigh it… because I’m cool like that! And to start the challenge it weighs 59g.

L’Oreal Infaillible Pomade Concealer

Another thing I’ve arguably had in my collection too long, but is actually a really nice product! This pot concealer has been the answer to my Benefit Boiing hole left after I weirdly lost it! It’s almost a perfect colour match for me (though do note it’s in light… so if you’re paler good luck). Can’t wait to eventually hit the bottom of this, as I am quite close.

Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot Powder

This is actually my second one of these! And while it’s still a relatively new product in my collection, it just felt right to include a powder in this project… and there’s no way Im going to try and finish another RCMA No Color Powder… I’m not mental! haha

Smashbox Contour Palette

Anyone who’s been round here a long time will remember when I really struggled to find a bronzer I liked… and now I feel like I have ones I like coming out of my ears! And this Smashbox one was one of the first ones I really fell in love with! But I don’t feel like it gets the love anymore! So I’d love to use up the contour shade at the top… and hit pan on the bronzer shade in the middle!

NARS Blush in Orgasm

I think this is the reason why I’ve put the caveat in that the project finishes at the end of the year. It’s no secret that NARS have the largest pans in the world… and finishing this will take a lot of time, effort and determination (I sound like I’m training for the olympics or something)!. However, this is probably my favourite blush ever and I really want to show it the love it deserves!

HUDA Warm Brown Obsessions Palette

This is the palette I lived with throughout those first months of lockdown and it’s become a true favourite and staple in my collection! I just love the range of super warm tones you get and that middle gold shade is so pretty! Now I would be mental to expect that I could use up this entire palette in one year (considering my collection is so big! And so my aim is to use up one shade and hit pan on 3 more.

Vieve The Essential Palette

Now this is a rogue option, considering I’ve only just got my hands on it, and (as you can see) I’ve barely used it. However, the formula seems to be amazing and that colour layout is amazing! A full review is coming any day now, but my goal for this this year is to hit pan on 3 shades. And they’re big pans…!

MAC Velvet Teddy

You may have recognised this from my 2020 favourites and (let’s face it) a lot of blog posts from 2019-2020. I’ve actually already made a pretty decent dent in this, but it is arguably ‘old’ and so I really want to finish it up and get it out my collection… so hopefully the obsession will stop and I can try using other things instead!

Revlon Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick in Cherries In The Snow

Probably my standout lipstick of 2020, I really enjoy this super bright shade! And I’d love to wear it more in 2021 and really own that I now love a bright lip! So… let’s see how this goes ey!

What a challenge? I might be mental… but I can’t wait to see how I get on with these things over the year! I’ll be updating you guys at the end of the month with my progress in a sort of monthly update (including favourites, a Project 10 Pan update and a small set of goals for the next month). So I hope you enjoy the series and here’s to an epic 2021!

  1. Great idea! As I’m on a money saving challenge this year, this would be ideal for me to follow! Thanks for sharing!

  2. This is a great idea. The amount of part-used makeup products I have is ridiculous. And I’m guilty of buying new products before I’ve finished my current ones. I love Nars blushers and bronzers and couldn’t be without my Laura Mercier powder and Morphe eyeshadow palette. I do generally use these until they are empty. But I’m forever changing foundations, concealers etc. Good luck with the challenge!

  3. Great post! I love the idea of this project and I can’t wait for the updates! This has reminded me that I want to get a new MAC velvet teddy lipstick as the one I have is old now! Thank you for sharing this.

  4. Love the idea to make it a challenge! I think that even if we will be home for some more time, it’s nice to pick your mood with a nice lipstick or some make up at times. Thanks for sharing x

  5. I love the idea of this, I’ve seen so many people do it but never attempted it myself. I just love trying new products 😂
Looking forward to seeing your review of the Vieve palette, it looks so beautiful! X

  6. I must be really out of sink because I haven’t used any of these! Really good post, I really enjoyed it and have written down a few of these products as they look and sound great!

  7. My BFF just mentioned something like this yesterday that she saw on some sub reddit. She’s been really into the project pan sub reddit lately lol. This is a pretty cool idea, narrows down which products to use up first!

  8. Sounds like a good way to thin out your collection, if you use up the products you don’t really like or use. If you use your favourite items you’ll just be buying a lot of replacements

  9. It’s such a great idea, makes me feel motivated to start using some of the products that I’ve had for quite a while now. Btw, the Vieve palette looks amazing! And I love the project pan challenge.

  10. The only bad thing about this post is that you’ve now made me want to buy some of these products 😂
I definitely have a whole lot of things that I really need to use up so maybe this challenge would be a good one for me to take on, too. Being at home all the time has made me really inconsistent with makeup and saying I wear it even once a week currently would be a stretch! I need my makeup mojo back!
