Is It Worth The Hype? | Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm

After seeing everyone RAVE about the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm, I knew I had to pick it up! So I finally crumbled and picked up a Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm from Look Fantastic and HAD to share with you what I thought!

Here’s what it says on the Clinique website…

“Lightweight makeup remover quickly dissolves tenacious eye and face makeup and sunscreen. Transforms from a solid balm into a silky oil upon application. Cleans thoroughly, rinses off completely. Gently helps remove the stress of pollution so skin looks younger for longer. Non-greasy. Non-drying.”

Packaging & Price

So it’s no secret that Clinique is not an affordable brand. This cleansing balm is £26.00 for 125ml…. HOWEVER, it does last forever! So I feel like cost per wear ends up not too bad! The packaging is simple, elegant and very Clinique!

Formula

So you lift it out the pan (do you call it a pan? I don’t know) and it’s a solid balm, like you can move it around, but it’s otherwise a lump on your finger. As it warms up on your finger or with your skin it then becomes this silky like texture that is somewhere between and oil and a balm… and it’s just so darn relaxing!

Does It Remove Makeup?

Short answer? Sort of. So it removes foundation and base products perfectly, and your lip products so satisfyingly melt off, and it removes non waterproof eye makeup… but if you have waterproof makeup, it really struggled with it. So honestly I love this as part of a two step cleanser, where I either follow up with micellar water or start with a micellar water to remove my eye makeup.

Would I Recommend?

Yes. It’s such a lovely cleanser, leaves you skin feeling super fresh, soft and hydrated but honestly so clean! It’s one of the most relaxing cleansers I’ve tried! But I really would say you need an eye makeup remover of some sort in your life to go alongside it! It’s expensive, but I’ve used it around 10 times now and I’ve made the smallest dent in it!

Have you tried this? If so, what did you think?

  1. I’ve heard really great things about this from other places, too. Your review lines up with what other people have said, and it sounds like great stuff. I haven’t tried it yet, though. I’ve been using Boscia’s Makeup Breakup cleansing oil and just bought a new bottle. I might try the Clinique balm after I use that up, though.

  2. This is my favourite cleanser, it’s lovely for sensitive skin and it’s easy to apply and massage in. I tend to go in with some warm water on a face cloth to rinse this off and wash my face afterwards and my skin is very clean. A great, simple fuss free way to remove makeup 😀

  3. Thanks for your review! I haven’t tried this yet. I don’t wear too much makeup but I definitely want to be good about taking off what I have before bed every night. I’ll have to give this a try!

  4. I haven’t heard of this before, but it sounds like something I would like. Clinique is one of my favorite brands and I honestly haven’t found anything of theirs I didn’t like! Thank you for the recommendation.

  5. Great review! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this product! I haven’t actually heard of this product till now but it sounds like a really good product! I would like to try a mini version of this to see what it’s like!

  6. Thanks for your review Katie – I’ve always been a fan of clinque as most of their products do have a higher price tag but go the extra mile and last a while. It’s wonderful to hear this product for the most part is similar – appreciate your thoughts!

  7. Thank you for your review, Katie! I’ve just bought this balm, after seeing Caroline Hiron’s rant about how great she found it. Do you find it stings the eye area? 🙂

  8. Looks like a good one, I have a few other cleansing balms and my biggest gripe with the is the fragrance. I don’t mind fragrance in cleansers but I feel that I can’t take the balm up to my eyes because it’ll burn. Clinique usually doesn’t have fragrance though. They’re pretty reliable for sensitive skin.
