New | NYX 3 Steps to Sculpt

NYX is one of those brands that arrived into Boots with such a storm that the world literally went crazy – well England at least. But, I kind of missed it… partly because I was working in Superdrug at the time (so I did all my beauty shopping there pretty much), and partly because it’s not actually the cheapest brand.

However, everything I have tried by them has impressed me, and the brand is yet to let me down. So when I see they have launched a new product, I am intrigued. So here we have the “3 Steps to Sculpt” palette. It comes in 4 shades – which I obviously got the lightest one.. because… I mean, look at me, I am pale af! The palette is £11, which for the fact you get three different products in it, I feel like it’s a good price.

The palette has three pressed powders; a matte contour, a matt ‘highlight’ and a shimmer/glitter highlight. Online it says “use the darkest shade to contour, the lighter matte shade to highlight and the shimmering shade to illuminate for seamless sculpting.” However, personally I would use the matte highlight as a setting powder… more about that later.

The packaging feels fairly sturdy, and like it’s not going to break in five minutes (like the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder). The round packaging is simultaneously hate and love.  I like it, because it looks visually appealing, but I hate it because it makes things a little harder to store – petty I know. I think it would be lovely if it came with a mirror, and so making it super travel friendly, but I guess avoiding that kept costs down.. so can’t complain too much.

The contour powder is a beautiful colour. It’s slightly more on the cool side, but it’s not grey toned (which I find some contour powders can be), so it doesn’t make you look dead. It’s also a really good shade for my skin tone, not too dark of too light. The pigment is insane… use a light hand and build up in layers, because a little bit of this product goes a long way. However, because the powder is so buttery and soft, it blends really well.

The ‘highlight’.. oh the ‘highlight’. I never really get matte highlights, and most the time I ignore them.. but this looks deceptively like a setting powder. So, I decided to try is as one… and I love it. It’s buttery, but super finely milled. It applies on to the face in the softest and smooth way possible. And, it looks incredibly under the eye. This is one of my favourite pressed powders ever!

Everything is going so well. Currently this is a stand out palette, and if it came with a stand out highlighter I would be all heart emojis and telling you that you physically can’t live without this palette…. however, this is where it lets the team down. This highlight is chunky, and I don’t mean a little bit chunky where it’s just a little annoying, I mean like it’s just glitter. So, when you apply it on your face it looks like you had a glitter highlight on (like you do in festivals) and you’ve tried to wash it off, but some of it has stayed behind. And then, throughout the day it falls down onto your face, and you end up with glitter EVERYWHERE…. sigh

However, highlight aside, this is a stunning little kit. The pan sizes are generous, and the packaging isn’t actually super sleek, so it’s not the most ideal for travelling. But, I know I’m going to get a lot of use out of the bronzer and matte ‘highlighter’ in this palette. And, I have no doubt you will see this in blog posts in the future!
