New | e.l.f. Putty Blushes

I was just casually walking through Superdrug picking up my essentials (I wrote the haul up last month) and I spotted some stunning and bright putty blushes from e.l.f. Cosmetics, and knew I just HAD to pick one up. Low and behold (and spoiler) I loved it, so went back and picked up the other shades and now I’m coming at you with a full on review.

As a slight disclaimer before I start this video, before this point I hadn’t ever really found a cream blush I got on with. They were all either too pigmented, oily or just difficult to work with. I had decided it was because I hated cream blushes… but I honestly think it’s the fact that the 3 or so formulas I’ve tried just aren’t AMAZING (I mean the Rimmel ones were pretty good, but not like WOW you need it).

What They Say

Here are the claims on the e.l.f. website;

Say hello to that island glow! This lightweight but buildable, putty to powder blush, blends seamlessly into skin. Infused with argan oil and vitamin E for some added nourishment, this silky smooth, buildable formula will give you a flushed-from-within glow.

Price & Packaging

So we all know e.l.f. is a super affordable brand! And these blushes have a decent amount of product (10g) for £6. The packaging is simple and actually quite elegant, with a clear bottom and a black lid. However, as lovely as these are… there is one major pet peeve about them; THERE IS NO SHADE NAME ON THE PACKAGING! So I literally have no idea what shades I own. But if you don’t care about that, then you won’t care about it.

Shade Range

I have 5 of the 6 available shades (as my local Superdrug only carries 5 shades at once). And as mentioned above I couldn’t be definite as to which shade is which, but all you have a nice range of bright pink shades, deeper red tones, and orangey tones!

The Application

One of the things I really love about this blush range is that they go on first quite sheer… and then you can layer them up. It means they can be a lot less scary than some of the other cream blushes out there! You can get away with applying them with a brush, sponge or with your fingers, but the latter is definitely my preference. The warmth of your finger tips really does help warm up the product and so help it blend in easier and slightly more seamless. I find if you use a brush or sponge, they can be quite difficult to blend. You can just about get away with applying them over powder, but as you blend them in, I do find it lifts things a little if you don’t apply them on top of cream products without powder.

The Formula & Wear Time

As mentioned in the e.l.f. description, these are a putty to powder blush. Simply meaning that you apply them as a creamy formula, blending them in with your foundation and then they dry down to a powder like finish, in the fact that they don’t look wet on your skin. My cheeks are relatively normal in their skin type (so they run neither too oily or too dry), so I found they sat really nicely on the skin. Their wear time is pretty good, but they don’t last quite as long as say my NARS powder blushes (which is what I tend to wear on the daily), and I find your blush really does fade a little over the day.

Overall Thoughts

Hear me out. I love these as a base blush! I apply them just after my concealer, with a generous amount of blush across my cheeks and across my nose. I will then set my face with my powder and top up my blush with a later of my powder blush! And it creates this really lovely layer of colours, while also locking in my blush and making it pop all day (I have become obsessed with blush recently, can you tell)? And I love layering different putty blushers under the same powder blush to create some different and unique shades!

Have you tried these? If so, what did you think?

  1. Nice review! Thank you for sharing this product! The shades look so nice and I like the sound of them. I admit that I wasn’t a big fan of cream blushes either but I’ll have to try out this product!

  2. Cream blushes always scare me as I am so used to powder version. You mayhave just convinced me to try these. I like that you can build up the colour so can have it as sheer or dark as you like.
    Thanks for sharing 😉

  3. So, I have been looking for a blush from a cruelty free line and I think I just found it! e.l.f is cruelty free if you didn’t k now, and I’m excited to get my hands on one of these little jars. Thanks for sharing!

  4. So I am not normally enticed in by make-up reviews, but this one caught my eye because the little tubs are too, too cute! Loving the range of shades, though it is a shame they are not labeled. The lightest pink one connects with me most, as well as the inclusion of argan oil and Vitamin E!
Thanks for sharing a beautiful collection of cream blushes! I am more of a cream gal than a powder lady; I make a mess more often than not. 😬🙄😜

  5. I’ve been meaning to get this because it has lovely shades that are totally my color but I’m so used to powder blushes because of my oily skin 🙁 I hope I can wear different formula of blushes xx

  6. I love these blushes! Also I found out through a YouTube review that the little sticker on the side in silver writing has the shade name in tiny writing!
