Things That Bring Me Comfort | How I’m Making It Through Lockdown

Things That Bring Me Comfort

I don’t even know how many weeks we’ve been at this, and I’m not sure I want to work it out. But it’s been a while. We’ve seen travel halted, entire industries halted and our locals shut, but we’ve all managed to find out new normal, whatever that may be. And I can’t say it’s been the easiest, nor has it been the most difficult thing I’ve done either, but it’s certainly taken some getting used to.

Even writing this blog post, I’m using images I took while on the view deck of Tate Modern. When life was good and free, and we could just stand on the top of a gallery without even knowing what social distancing was or the existence of a word like furlough! But I’ve found some things that are helping me through this and thought I’d share.

Food

I love how the world has weirdly turned into crazy nations of bakers over the past few weeks. I also don’t want to sound like a fat f**k, but I blooming love food. I love making it, eating it, thinking about it. I’ve recently tried making new recipes and trying things I’ve never even thought of before and it’s been great! I’ve become a lover of salmon and avocado and seeded bread – pretty much a hipster over here!

Netflix/Disney +/BritBox/Amazon Prime

I can’t quite get over how many different streaming services there are out there now, but it seems like I have ’em all! And while Netflix is still the top of the bunch, I’ve been enjoying binge watching everything. Be it old favourites (like Humans on Britbox, if you haven’t seen it… you need to get on that train) or new shows (The Stranger was a cracker) or new series of old favourites (Dynasty to name one, but this list is endless).

Sh**ged Married Annoyed (with Chris & Rosie)

I’ve never been a podcast listener. In fact, I almost laughed at people who did. Not because I’m mean, just didn’t get it. But I’m ngl, this podcast is hilarious! It’s been going on for over a year now, but it cracks me up – I’m literally laughing while walking around Ealing… look like a bit of a loser you know!

It’s effectively Chris Ramsey and his wife Rosie teasing each other for half the episode and taking questions from the public and teasing each other again in the other half of the episode.

Learning French

Yes. You read that right. French. Me. French. Comfort…. Three things I never thought would be in the same breath. But I’ve recently started learning French via a combination of Duolingo and my boyfriend and his very French family and it’s been great. It’s given me something to do in the evening, something to keep my brain active, and Duolingo is such a great game style learning app it’s good fun! Love it

Blogging, Instagramming, You Name It

I’m enjoying rejoining this little online community! It feels like it’s something I can be proud of and somewhere I can go! I hope you’re enjoying the start of everyday June and fingers crossed this is just the (re)beginning!

Walking

I’ve recently started running too, but that’s not really a comfort… more a I’m enjoying food too much and need to offset it. But I’m heading out for a walk first thing, and often a walk at lunch and I’m loving it. It’s getting me out my one room flat, enjoying the fresh outdoors and exploring all the parks of West London. And come on, the British weather (until this week) has been lush!

What have you been doing in lockdown to make it that little bit easier?
