Maybelline Metallic Foil Lipsticks Review and Swatches

To be honest, I’ve not heard anyone talk about these, and I had no idea Maybelline were even launching them. But here they are. Metallic Foil Liquid Lipsticks. With a total of seven shades, at £7.99 each, this is kind of exciting. Although, I have to admit, I really can’t pull of the metallic lip look…

The packaging is simple, cool and to the point. Not gimmicky or excessive, but not cheap looking. The price is mid-range, but possibly more than I would usually spend on a product like this – i.e. not one I can wear daily. First impressions, good.

The colour range is cool, with most of the shades being surprisingly wearable. The shades I have (from left to right of switches) are Psychic, Labyrinth, Calypso, Nemesis and Luna (side note, love the names). The formula is very liquidy on first application (and so lip liner probably needed, unless you have serious skill), but they dry super fast and then they’re in place and are completely kiss proof. The formula isn’t any more drying than any other liquid lip, and the lasting power is ok. However, the lipsticks do crack as oppose to fade, which is kind of annoying. The glitter isn’t really thick, meaning they feel like a normal liquid lip on the lips. Overall, impressive… they just really don’t suit me – which is a shame.

Side note: I have been using them as liquid eyeshadow, as they are stunning shades. They dry super fast, so work quickly, and one eye at the time.. but they last well and do the job. However, I wouldn’t buy them for that reason, unless there’s a shade you are IN LOVE with, because the Maybelline Colour Tattoos, or the L’Oreal Liquid Eye Paints obviously do the job a lot better.

Have you tried these? If so, what are your thoughts?

  1. I LOVE the idea of using them as eyeshadows! I’m not a fan of the whole metallic lips….I bought a too faced one and I just can’t use it, I don’t like it on myself at all. X
