Is It Worth The Hype? | Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray

So I’ve seen a million and one people talk about this product and love it! I’m not going to lie, I was pulled in by the whole hype of it and just needed to pick it up. The Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray is known for being one of the best.

Now, I have to say, I’m not the biggest fan girl of setting sprays. While I love them for getting rid of excess powder and helping your makeup sit better on the skin, I’ve never really been convinced they make your makeup last longer. It always still rubs off on my nose (weird), it always gathers around the natural creases (don’t say they’re not creases they’re wrinkles, I aint ready for that) and makeup just generally wears throughout the day. And it’s fine. It’s like, and it’s normal, and many of the foundations I love wear and fade beautifully.

But I honestly never really see that setting spray makes a difference.

And now here’s the thing. I know people obsess over this product……… I just don’t see the hype.

Don’t come at me

The packaging is beautiful, the spray is one of the nicest of the handful of setting sprays I’ve tried. And this does help your makeup meld into your face and sort out any additional powder (yes, I go a bit ham sometimes with setting powder). But I honestly don’t think this prolongs your makeup drastically. I even sprayed it on one side of my face (covering the other) and both sides looked identical at the end of the day.

Now that’s not me saying this is a dreadful product by any means. As I said before, I love setting sprays for helping everything set together, and this does this as beautiful as the next.

But so do drugstore sprays and they’re like £8 vs £26.

I honestly feel like a lost wolf on my own in the wild. As in, I’m the only person not enamoured by this product….

Let me know what you think of it in the comments?

  1. Oh so sorry this hasn’t worked for you. I get what you mean, I’ve tried many setting sprays that don’t extend the wear of my makeup and honestly don’t feel much different than water (MAC Fix +), but this one in specific is an outlier. For me, it’s like magic, and I was so excited to discover it. A 8 hour foundation turns into a 16 hour one. The Huda Beauty spray is also very long lasting for me, but less pleasant to use (horrible smell). I don’t know if you could try that one in store, maybe it might work for you?

    1. Ooo interesting. Yes, I know I’m clearly on my own with my opinion on this Setting Spray, but when the shops are reopen I might try the HUDA one! Thanks x

  2. I’m in the same camp as you. For me, a fine enough mist will help to set your powder layer. I never really bother to buy an expensive setting spray. But then again I have never gone ALL NIGHT with my makeup so I’m not to best judge probably.

  3. This is the first review that I’ve ever read that is similar to how I feel. I just don’t see why it’s so amazing, and it stings my skin so bad due to how much alcohol it contains. I much prefer the Too Faced Hangover Primer for a luxury setting spray xx

  4. I’m an NYX setting spray fan. I like MAC’s also. It is really an extra for linger wear but not truly necessary.

  5. I don’t wear setting spray every day, I tend to reach for it if my skin is looking a little dry or powdery to reinvigorate it and get that glow back. I tend to think of them more as face mists rather than a product that will set my makeup and hold it in place. Being a dry skinned girl, makeup lasts quite well on me anyway 😛 haven’t tried the All Nighter before but maybe one day 🙂 sorry you didn’t see much of a difference with it x

  6. I completely agree with you. It’s nice, but I feel like it doesn’t do much to prolong makeup. I actually prefer others that I’ve tried since the smell of this one turns me off. I’ve been using the Cover FX Dewy Setting Spray.

  7. I don’t think I have ever tried this setting spray before. But I am with you when you say that lots of people rant and rave about how good it is for keeping your makeup on your face all day. I must admit, I don’t use setting spray everyday, but if I did, I would go for the NYX dewy setting spray. I love it, and it’s a fraction of the cost of this one!

    1. Yeah, you’re the second person who’s mentioned the NYX setting spray in this post and I haven’t used it in years… so maybe I’ll grab it again! x

  8. Very interesting! I was skeptical about buying this one to try it out. I might end up not buying it after all. I personally love using the Hard Candy Fast & Fabulous one! Thank you for the post!

  9. I recently just used mine up and was on the same boat as you. I also own the elf setting spray which is like $3 or $4 and I didnt notice a huge difference between the two lol. It’s nice but not a holy grail.
