The Morphe x James Charles Palette – Is It Worth The Hype?

Morphe The James Charles Palette

So it’s safe to say I’ve been lusting after this palette for AGES and finally picked it up in the Black Friday sales! I’ve recently really started to get into coloured eyeshadows, and suddenly realised (looking through my collection) I didn’t really own any! So off I went to the Morphe website to get my very own colourful palette!

I’ve had mine for a few weeks now and have created countless looks so can’t wait to share with you my final verdict!

Pricing & Packaging

At full price this palette is £39… so it’s expensive, but you do get a lot of shadow, so I would say it’s not too expensive. But I did pick it up for only £23.40, for which I think it’s sort of a bargain! Having gone on the Morphe site recently, this seems to be out of stock. The pans are HUGE and they’ve come out with a mini one for £26. I don’t have it in my hand, so I can’t comment on how big the pans are, but I feel like it will probably suit you fine as I’ve never hit pan on a Morphe eyeshadow before!

The packaging is this super slick matte black palette. It’s slim, and so relatively easy to slip into your suitcase. But it is HUGE… like next level Morphe palette HUGE! And it doesn’t come with a mirror (which annoys me, as it would be handy to have it for when you travel, but also 99% of the time I’m using it at home where I have my own mirror anyway… so it’s a tiny complaint). The name shades come on a slip sheet which I guarantee you I’ll lose in a few months, so depends on whether this bothers you.

Colour Story

Now I got this with the intension of wanting a colourful palette and it basically has every colour you could ever need in the world! Along the middle you have larger pans for the slightly more neutral shades (though they do all carry a warm undertone, so worth considering) ranging all the way from white to black. Then surrounding that you have everything from a bright orange, to an almost florescent pink to a green to even some more brown and earthy tones.

There are a good mix of mattes, shimmers and even a few glittery shades thrown in there. I feel like the palette 100% goes dark and light enough and I’m super impressed

Formula

Now I have to say, I’ve always been a fan of a Morphe eyeshadow formula. They’re one of the easiest formulas to work with because their pigment is buildable. While the Juvia’s Place palettes, for example, pack far more pigment on the first punch, it means you can get heavy and make mistakes really fast! While Morphe shades have pigment, but it’s at like 75% on first swipe and then you can build it up to be super bright and heavy with very little effort. And for someone who has a slight fear of bright shades, I really appreciate it!

The shades are all true to pan (i.e. they come out on the face pretty much the same shade as they look in the pan), they’re as pigmented as I want them to be, buildable and blendable and a delight to work with! They also keep their pigment throughout the day.

The only thing to flag is the glittery shades are a little… meh. But, to be fair, I find that in most palettes! (note: the shimmer shades are gorgeous).

Overall Verdict

I mean all in all, I’m impressed! I’ve been wanting this palette for AGES and I’m so happy to finally have my hands on it! I’m enjoying the endless number of looks I can create with it and the formula is gorgeous (I would expect nothing less from Morphe to be fair).

Highly recommend if you can get your hand on it, and the mini palette sounds great!

Have you tried this? If so, what did you think?

  1. This pallet looks amazing, I love that you have so many different shades and colours all in one, even if glitters aren’t the best! Wish you’d share some looks you’ve created, I love to play around with colours as well <3

  2. Seeing the looks he came up with with his own palette really pushed me to want this one so much more! I haven’t played with it enough but the times I have, putting on makeup was SO much easier! I’m not always a fan of Morphe’s formula but I feel like with collabs they really make them better.

      1. I’ve bought a few before they started doing collabs and they were such a hit or miss! I do wonder if the formula has changed since then. They have gorgeous colors but sometimes the pay off isn’t that great 😭
