Lockdown Morning Routine

I’m one of those people who sometimes really misses commuting. Yes. I’m weird. But I am starting to love my new little morning routine I’ve got, and it’s slowly but surely being perfected to set me up for a constructive day… of not leaving my house, sitting at the same desk all day, and still somehow doing work!

I’ve found little things that work for me and make my s***ty experience of lockdown just a little more manageable, and thought I’d share it with you. So here we go.

Tea in bed

Anyone who knows anything about me know I have 3 loves in life (in the food world, I ain’t insulting anyone); tea, sugar and cheese – and yes, I’m currently munching my way through a Mac n Cheese while writing this. I’m lucky that my bed is right under the window and I have an east facing window so it’s flooded with light first thing in the morning. And while I need to get up and get stuff done, I’ve learnt to take a little time to lay in bed, with a cuppa, and just enjoy it.

Sometimes I read the news (ooo get me), sometimes I scroll down instagram … and sometimes I watch reruns of Love Island on Britbox (theeeere you go), but I take half an hour or so to stop.

Go for a run

Yes, I said run. And no I’m not ill. But I’ve started doing the Couch to 5k, and about to finish my third week, and while that doesn’t make me an expert in any sense of the world, but I’ve been really enjoying it. I’m now running for nearly 5 mins without stopping (sounds dreadful, but you try running non stop not on a treadmill, it’s hard ok), and it really makes me feel better.

Clearly I don’t run every day. I’m not a complete savage. I tend to do it every other day and alternate it with a nice morning stroll.

Shower & Skincare

I feel like I need to update you on my skincare routine, because it’s changed so much over the last 12 months, but I’ve found something that works for me, and I’m hoping to stick to it for a while – pretty fickle with skincare me!

But some of my current favourites are: Maui Revive + Hydrate Shampoo & Conditioner which leaves your hair smelling delicious and feeling super soft! Your Good Skin Nourishing Hot Cloth Cleanser I’ve never been a hot cloth cleanser kinda girl, the whole thing kinda confused me. But I got this for Christmas from my bestie, and I’m getting round to giving it a go, and I’m starting to see what the fuss is about! Dr Botanicals Moroccon Rose Superfood Facial Oil this just feels so nice on the skin, hydrating and soothing! Love it

And then clearly I get dressed, but didn’t feel like it needed a whole section, and we all know how to do that. But if you want to see some of the outfits I’ve been wearing recently… here they are.

Breakfast

I’m one of those losers who cuts up apples into 8ths like they’re in Primary School. But I just enjoy eating them that way, so don’t come at me. However, an apple and a slice of jam on toast… perfect breakfast right there.

Oh and I make an entire pot of tea just for myself. Remember when I said I was a tea addict, I wasn’t lying. It’s decaf though, so it’s ok!

To-Do List

It’s the very last thing I do before I start my day. A clear list of achievable (being the important word) things I’m going to do in the day. Be they work related, blog related or personal. It just keeps my focus, makes me feel better when I do them, and makes sure I don’t forget things!

And there ya go! What do you do with your mornings?

  1. Good on you for doing Couch to 5K! My husband does Joe Wicks every morning but I’ve been really ill since Feb 22nd so my days are spent between the bed and sofa! x

  2. I loved reading through this! Tea is an absolute must for me too 🙂 I’ve recently been peeling myself out of bed, making a cup of tea and reading a book… heaven!
