2016 Favourites | Where Are They Now?

one year of look fantastic

I wanted to post this in January… but I have to say, I actually completely forgot I’d taken these photos and considered writing this post. I’ve been writing these blog posts for a couple of years now, meaning I have a written diary of my favourite (or not so favourite) products for most of my adult life. So I still really thought it was worth discussing with you where my 2016 favourites have gone… and whether I’m still using them

2016 favs

I mean the main difference between now and then is my blog photos style… at the end of 2016 I discovered the marble paper… which I still very much use. But I used to only use the marble paper.. ie there was literally nothing else in the picture other than the makeup and the marble… anyhow, that’s not why we’re here:

Max Factor Face Finity All Day Flawless Primer | Still love this primer, and the foundation! Although, I have to say, if I was going to buy a primer from Max Factor it would be the Smooth Miracle Primer

Bourjois City Radiance Foundation | OMG I used to LOVE this foundation. I used it off recommendation from Emily Rose and instantly fell in love. It’s still a good foundation, but I really do feel like I’ve discovered better foundations since… still would be intrigued to try this again though..

Benefit Boing Concealer | This makes me so so sad, because I lost this concealer. I literally have no idea where it went. However, it was a really good full coverage concealer, and I really do want it back in my life…

Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer | Minus the shocking shade range I still LOVE this concealer. It is the most beautiful under eye concealer ever! Stunning

Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer | This is a good one, and I still do use it a fair amount. But you just don’t get much product in this, and it seems to run out almost instantly. Therefore, not sure I’d really recommend this…

Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot Powder | I actually haven’t used this since I had this one… I do remember it being a very good setting powder, but I’ve found I’m so much more into loose powder, that I don’t think I’d ever need to pick this up…. now watch me buy this!

2016 favourites 1

Smashbox Contour Kit | I still adore this product! However, I’ve actually found myself using more of the palette since back in 2016. I used to only use the contour shade, which is such a shame, because the bronzer does a really nice job of warming the skin and the yellow setting powder is really nice to set the skin (with a really light layer). If anything, I love this product more!

Body Shop Honey Bronzer | Still a stunning bronzer… I’ve loved mine so much I’ve cracked my packaging. But I still use this regularly

Benefit Hoola Bronzer | I feel like, back in the day, Benefit was the only ‘high end’ makeup brand I really tried – par the odd product here or there. And the Hoola Bronzer still is an all time classic, do I need to say anything else? Not really.

Model Co Blush in Cosmopolitan | I went through a stage of loving blush, then I hated them, and now I’m so back into them again. And this blush really is just the perfect blush shade. The packaging is bulky af, but the formula is really good!

Rimmel Royal Blush | A really good cream blush, but I’ve just come to accept that I never ever use cream blushes… and so while these products are good, I just never use them.

Sleek Solstice Palette | Still a classic, although so many brands have launched a million highlighters since this, I feel like it’s been completely forgotten. Still only use one shade out of the whole palette, but still a stunning shade

2016 favourites 2

Miss Sporty Quad in Smokey Brown Eyes | Oh, the first palette I ever hit pan on. I used to LOVE this, and I still really do think it’s a great bargain and a great travel palette. I just have soo many eyeshadow palettes that I feel like this one gets forgotten

GOSH Eyeshadow Palette in To Enjoy in New York | Still one of my more unique palettes, I still love this palette and still use is super regularly. I went through a stage of using this on the daily – when I had purple dipped hair. However, since writing this post, I’ve discovered the highlight shade at the top of this palette is GORGEOUS!

Max Factor Smokey Eye in Sumptuous Gold | Still a stunning mini palette. Quite expensive for what it is. Very very shimmery. But still really pretty, easy to wear, long lasting and the look you can create with it really does suit me!

Soap and Glory Supercat | I don’t really find myself wearing a cat flick much anymore, but this is still one of the best eyeliners out there and still the one I’d recommend!

Maybelline Lash Sensational Bourjois Volume Volume Reveal | Thought I’d put these together because I feel the same way about them. Stunning, brilliant mascaras that are still probably my favourite mascara (alongside the Benefit Rollerlash Mascara). However, I just have so many mascaras, I’m just holding off buying them

Maybelline Brow Satin Pencil | Still a favourite, still the best brow product ever, still really annoying that it doesn’t have a spoolie on it.

2016 favourites 3

Mac Lipsticks in Faux and Hot Gossip | This makes me super sad… because my Hot Gossip melted last Summer and just became a hot mess (no.. still not funny). However, Faux is still a firm favourite and my Mac lipsticks are still my go tos

Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick in My Nude | I actually got rid of this, and don’t really find myself using the Rimmel Kate Moss lipsticks. They were incredible, and I’m sure they still are. But I feel like makeup has come so far since these came out and there are just better lipsticks out there now

No.7 High Shine Crayon in Delicate Pink | Still a really good lip crayon. And I still find myself using it… and OMG this was pre-liquid lipsticks? Crazy!

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in 19, the Collection Velvet Kiss Lip Cream in Caramel and the Bourjois  Rouge Edition Velvet in Nude-ist | Oh whoops, here they are. Anyhow. These are all good liquid lipsticks an I do still stand by them all. But I wouldn’t say they’re my all time favourites… also why did I have three favourites…

Do you remember what your favourites were from 2016? Do you actually use any?

I feel like it’s such a weird thing to look back at products you used to love and see if you still do love them anymore!

    1. I feel like on the whole they’re an ok brand. I’m yet to find anything EXCEPTIONAL from them (past this eyeliner), but I’d also never tried a product from them and hated it… their body/shower range are really nice though! x

  1. I still love and use the honey bronzer from The Body Shop, Collection Lasting Perfection concealer, Maybelline The Nudes palette and one of the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets in Frambourjoise x

  2. So many amazing products! I was so late to the body shop honey bronzer hype, but it’s such a good one! The shades are so good. I used to love the Rimmel Kate Moss lipsticks too, but got rid of them last year as like you say makeup has come so far since then. Great post xx

  3. I love this idea! I think is really fun to take a look back at products that you once loved, some things really stand the test of time for sure.

    1. It’s weird to see what you used to be obsessed with and now don’t even own (the Rimmel Kate Moss lipsticks come to my mind for that)… although, I feel most of my favs I still use 🙂 I’m a bit of a creature of habit! x
