A Year of Makeup Empties | 2018

Lots of people are throwing around their makeup favourites posts at the moment, and while they’re super cool and I love knowing what people love I thought I’d mix together that concept with one of my favourite blog posts empties! So… I spent the year gathering makeup empties like a crazy woman and thought the best way to share what I’ve really been loving this year is by showing you all the makeup items I’ve finished this year!

Now obviously, eyeshadow, face powders (bronzers, blushers, highlighter) and lipsticks are those makeup items that seem to last forever and this isn’t an exhaustive list of my favourites of 2018… but it gives you an idea!

Barry M Matte Nail Paint | I LOVE this top coat! It makes your nail polish dry faster, it dries matte (which is actually really pretty, I’d recommend trying it if it’s not something you usually do), and it’s super affordable!

NYX Total Control Drop Foundation | This was such a hyped product last year and for good reason! It’s a brilliant foundation! Super buildable coverage, great shade range, long lasting and looks super pretty on the skin!

Revolution Fix Setting Spray (x3) | Last year was the year I really discovered setting sprays and I haven’t looked back! They make your makeup last longer, look better and this one from Revolution is seriously good! I’m not sure it’s the best for prolonging makeup, but it’s really good at helping your makeup set better on your skin and it’s great for a quick refresh in the middle of the day too!

Maybelline Lash Sensational | Such a classic mascara! I haven’t actually had this for some time (as I’m working my way through my collection) but damn I’ve missed this. Really need to remember to repurchase

A Year of Makeup Empties | 2018

Rimmel Match Perfection Silky Loose Face Powder | It was also the year I found loose setting/face powders. Before I’d always thought them messy and powdery. But this year… I fell in love! And this one from Rimmel is really good! I really want to get my hands on the Maybelline Loose Fit Me Powder!

Revolution Conceal & Define Concealer (x2) | Did these launch last year or the year before? It’s all a bit of a blur! However, I really do love these concealers! They’re high coverage, long lasting and apply really well… wouldn’t say they’re the best for under the eyes, but great for everwhere else!

NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray | Another setting spray I’ve tried this year (there are a lot). This one was good, and while I did enjoy it, I still prefer by Revolution one!

Maybelline Brow Satin Brow Pencil (x3) | Oh Maybelline. I remember when I used to talk about this brow pencil and literally nothing else. I’ve since tried some good ones from Max Factor and NYX, but this one is still my favourite. There’s just something about the formula and colour that just works really well for me!

Bourjois Volume Reveal Mascara | This is the second one of these I’ve finished ever, it’s actually a really good everyday mascara. It gives good volume without being too clumpy, it’s super black and is just generally a really good mascara

B Makeup Brush Cleanser (x2) | Since I bought all these, B makeup (including the brush cleanser) has gone through a major rebranding. I’m hoping the formula hasn’t changed (the packaging is now black rather than white), because this stuff is seriously good!

GOSH Brow Gel (x4) | I feel like this number would be more like x10 if GOSH was available in every Superdrug. This is my favourite brow gel of all time. It really works for my done-undone brow look!

L’Oreal True Match Concealer | I LOVE the foundation, but it breaks me out (which is really sad), however, the concealer is also a good one. It’s not the highest coverage, but it works for those super natural makeup days

Benefit Gimme Brow | I’m not going to lie, I kind of completely forgot about the benefit brow range (yes, I know, shoot me). I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve tried from them, so I think this may be the year I pick some more things up

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation | The version of this foundation I’ve tried I don’t think exists anymore… I feel like I have some distant memory of it being replaced. Anyhow, while this is a good foundation, I think I’ve tried others since I prefer!

A Year of Makeup Empties | 2018

NYX Precision Brow Pencil (x3) | This is the first product that compared to the Maybelline Brow Satin. And I obviously liked it (having gone through 3), and I really do love it for travelling (as it has a spoolie.. which the Maybelline does not)…. however the Maybelline is still the one for me… weird right?

Sally Hansen Maximum Strength | I feel like it was a million years ago since I had this Nail Polish topper…. in some ways I can’t even remember what I thought about it. Which probably meant it was good, it did the job, but it was nothing groundbreaking that stuck in my memory for any length of time

Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer (x3) | I kind of forgot about this concealer towards the end of the year (as I was just trying SO many).  However, it really is a great under eye concealer!

L’Oreal Mattifying Primer | I love this range of primers from L’Oreal (the ones in the thin tubes) and I loved this one. Currently working my way through the brightening one… still not entirely sure which is my favourite. But they’re both great!

Revlon Photo Ready Prep, Set Refresh | Another setting spray, another one that was great, but another one I won’t be buying because I prefer by Revolution one… yawn!

Rimmel True Match Concealer (x2) | I literally just repurchased this after a break. It’s a great concealer, it just runs out SO fast…

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer (x3) | This is a classic. Need I say anything?

Benefit Roller Lash (x2) | Oh Benefit… I miss your mascaras so much. The Bad Girl BANG mascara is fine, but it’s no Roller Lash!

L’Oreal XFibre Mascara | I had totally forgotten this mascara ever existed! But I used to totally love this! It gave the best fluttery long lashes ever! Damn… I need to go shopping

Body Shop Makeup Setting Spray | If there is a setting spray to rival the Revolution one.. this would be it! This one was really good for making your face look super fresh!

A Year of Makeup Empties | 2018

Max Factor Brow Shaper | This was a super fine brow pencil that was a beautiful product. Because of how slim it was, however, I went through it sooo quickly!

Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot | A great little powder… in fact it’s one heck of a powder (HA!). However, I really did enjoy this, so I’d definitely pick up another

Benefit POREFessional | Who doesn’t love this primer? … Ok I say that and I think I’m one of them. While I don’t dislike this primer, I don’t LOVE it and I feel like there are better primers out there

Models Own i-Definer Eyeliner Duo in Brown | I used to love these so so much, and I still do. But Superdrug stopped stocking them, and so I don’t really know where you get hold of them. However, it’s a really easy to use dark brown eyeliner that’s a little softer than a black liner!

NYX Lingerie in Exotic | Another product I completely forgot about. I used to love this lipstick and it’s the first one I’ve ever finished. It was such a beautiful nude, such a great formula and it smelled delicious!

L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara | And another one… this launched loudly earlier last year and it’s been compared to the Better Than Sex mascara (which I haven’t tried, so I can’t say). But it really is good.. must get it again!

Bourjois City Radiance Foundation | This is what I love about these kind of blog posts… another product I forgot about. I’ve finished two of these in total, it used to be my holy grail foundation. And I’m quite tempted to pick it up again to see if it still really works for me!

A Year of Makeup Empties | 2018

GOSH Prime N Set Mattifying Setting Powder | This was actually a really good powder and I really do feel like GOSH as a brand is so overlooked!

Nip + Fab Mascara | While I finished this… not sure it’s really that special. Wouldn’t repurchase

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer | So I already have two more of these (long story), and I’m not even complaining, I would say this is my favourite primer ever!

Rimmel Lip Liner in Red Diva | The only lip liner I’ve ever finished, this is the perfect red lip liner! Good colour, easy to apply, super long lasting and not too drying! Plus, you don’t have to sharpen it! Win win win!

Max Factor Smooth Miracle Primer | Another fab product! Max Factor (like GOSH) is such an underrated makeup brand and I love their Smooth Miracle range!

L’Oreal Miss Baby Roll Mascara | OMG who remembers this launching!? And it came out in every colour (including purple and teal!)?! But it was a pretty good mascara! I probably wouldn’t buy it right now, as I have a million and one other mascaras I’ve realised I want back in my life, but it’s still a good one!

Maybelline Brow Drama Transparent Brow Gel (x5) | This is my go to brow gel when I can’t get hold of the GOSH one (which is more times that I’d want), and I’d definitely still repurchase, but it’s not my favourite. It’s just simple, does the job, affordable and… easy to get hold of

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder | OMG what a classic, and I’m just about to finish another one… so I guess that’ll go in next year’s post! This is a fabulous, just works really well powder! Really can’t go wrong!

OMG what a blog post! I really hope you guys enjoyed this! What did you finish this year?

    1. Aww thanks 🙂 I thought about it like 1/3 of the way through the year, and it took real commitment to store empty makeup products in my house for months… and then cart them across London when I moved! 😛 x

  1. Wow, you really finished up a lot of makeup! I love these kinds of posts, it’s just a really great way to see what someone really thought of a product as they have used it all up, so this was a fantastic read! 🙂
