One Year of Glossybox!

One Year of Glossybox

The final box in my series of beauty box roundups! And we’re finally onto Glossybox! There’s something that feels a little more premium about these boxes and I LOVE the packaging!

At £10 a month with £3.52 P&P it’s smack bang in the middle in terms of price point.. and I can’t wait to look back at the last year

Overall Thought | A really good first box with some great little products in it!

FEBRUARY

Off to a good start with a very good makeup-heavy box! The Sleek i-Divine Palette in Vintage Romance is a beautiful palette and the Ciate Mini Nail Polish another firm favourite. The Steve Laurant Lip Balm has the most beautiful packaging ever, and the formula is pretty good. The only makeup let down in this was the Studio 10 Glow Primer… we did not get on! The only skincare item in the box – the Skin Chemists 24hrs Aqua Repair Facial Serum – was a good addition and I enjoyed using it!

Overall Thought | A touch better than last month, Glossybox is off to a cracking start!

MARCH

There was something VERY Glossybox about this box – with it being so pink! The Mudmask Sleep Repair Renewal Nourishing Mask was gorgeous! And I would highly recommend it! Another great little product in here was the Figs + Roses Soft Focus Pore Perfect HD+ and the packaging of this was GORGEOUS!!! The Universal Beauty Secret Flush is a great little product. The Oryza Beauty Warm Nude Lipstick had a great formula, but the shade here is just too pale for me. Then the box is finished off with your classic Caudalie Vinosource… I’ve had way too many of these to count!

Overall Thought | Damn Glossybox!

APRIL

Oh damn, I know what box I need to resubscribe to already! The Karl Lagerfeld + Model Co Baked Blush in Light Beige was not exactly my colour, but I could see why people would love it. The Glossybox Angled Brush is great for applying eyeshadow as winged eyeliner! I’ve nearly finished my Affect Matt Effect Transparent Loose Rice Powder, and I’ve REALLY enjoyed it. The Eyeko FAT Liquid Eyeliner is a great product – who remembers when all eyeliners were like this fat… I’m actually one of those people who really gets on with them in this shape! And the Imperial Leather Unicorn Mashmallow Foamburst smelled delicious!

Overall Thought | Saved by the foot soak and hair care, but they did have to slip up some time right?

MAY

I knew it couldn’t stay like it forever. While we still had some great products in the Gelspa Just for Feet Luxury Jelly Foot Soak (OMG this was fun, and such a unique product) and the Maria Nila True Soft Shampoo & Conditioner (which left my hair feeling super soft. The Trifle Cosmetics Praline Palette was a bit naff, the Kuesha Facial Make Up Remover didn’t really leave much of an impression and the little tea bag from We Are Tea.. why couldn’t it have been breakfast tea?

Overall Thought | Here we go, another solid box!

JUNE

Soon back on form. The Laritzy Cosmetics Shade Stix is one of my favourite finds of the year. This cream contour stick is perfect! Can’t really find it anywhere to buy online, but if you can get your hands on this I recommend it! Not sure I’m convinced by the whole eye gel thing (rather than an eye cream), but still glad I tried the Monu Skin Eye Cool Gel. The Nip + Fab Glycolic Scrub Fix is one of my favourite face scrubs of all time and the Novex Mystic Black Deep Hair Mask left my hair feeling super soft. The slightly random, but actually surprisingly useful addition to the box this month was the Wilkinson Sword Intuition FAB Razor

JULY

This month really just goes to show how much of a roller coaster this box subscription is! While the Senhor do Bonfim Sea Water Hair Spray was a great product and the Essence I Love Extreme Volume Mascara Waterproof was a welcome surprise. The Inuwet Cheek Shell Brush and Regenerate Enamel Science Advanced Toothpaste both felt a little random. The Hawaiian Tropic Duo Defense Sun Lotion was just a sachet (like you’d get for free in a magazine) and… this is a personal thing, but I really hate coconut so the Palmers Coconut Oil Body Lotion was really not my thing!

Overall Thought | Better than last month, but I just felt like this box was full of products you’re never really going to use

AUGUST

I can’t really make my mind up about this box… while great little products, the Rimmel Ink Me Stamp & Sticker Tattoos, Rimmel Heart Stamp Tattoo and MINA The Shadow Paint felt a little gimicky. Not really sure when I’m going to have use for these! The Kaleido Cosmetics Astrolight Highlighter also never really gets used. However, the Victoria’s Secret Pink Selfie Skin Nourishing Sheet Mask was pretty good and the Trifle Cosmetics Lip & Cheek Jam is another one of those little beauty box gems!

Overall Thought | Like last month, just had a lot of filler products

SEPTEMBER

This box seemed to have a few gems and then a lot of filler products. The Karl Lagerfeld + Model Co Lip Liner is gorgeous! And I’ve been loving using it. And then Brow Pomade is also a firm favourite (though not entirely convinced by the brush that comes with it, but who is). However, then you have a random mini packet of the Wet Ones Be Fresh Wipes, a random Daily Concepts Your Facial Mini Scrubber, a Detoxifying Bubble Cleansing Mask (which is fine, if not a little underwhelming) and the Grow Gorgeous Scalp Detox (which we all know I’m not the biggest fan of)

OCTOBER

Suddenly, as if my magic, the Glossybox boxes woke up again! The Illamasqua Antimatter Lipstick in Energy, while in a bright purple, is actually surprisingly wearable. The Sleek Eyeshadow Palette in Au Naturel is just gorgeous. We have the classic This Works In Transit Camera Close-Up! The MUA Luce Bronze + Sculpt Contour Kit was in dark, but the bronzer shade in here is gorgeous.. as it’s making me want to pick up the light one! The box is finished off by the Luna By Luna Translucent Powder… I’m not sure it’s completely translucent as it does show up very white, but using a light hand with this, it’s a good powder!

NOVEMBER

Another great little box! I mean I’ve wanted to try a HUDA Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick since they launched, and I now have one! In the shade Girlfriend. The Living Proof Perfect Day Dry Shampoo was dreamy… and now I want it… always! The StyLondon Eaton Eyeshadow Palette was a little surprise, with these shimmers being super impressive. For the winter months the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Original Solid Formula is perfect. You can use these anywhere you have super dry skin! The Context Micro-Derm Regenerator was fine… but the rest of the box was definitely better!

DECEMBER

I can’t believe how many things I’ve got out of these boxes over the year! I have another one of these BellaPierre Shimmer Rolls… something I’ll never ever use.. let’s move on. The Imperial Leather Fantasy Icons Cosmic Unicorn Shower Gel, while hideously named and packaged actually smells really nice! The Beauty BLVD Divine Hydra-Gel Lip Mask is a bit gimicky, but fun. The Doucce Relentless Matte Lip Crayon in Winterberry is GORGEOUS (seriously, this brand is impressive… and I’ve only ever tried it from beauty boxes). The Niko Pro Liquid Jelly Blush in Bali is fascinating. Yet to really try it, but I love receiving something a little unusual in these boxes. And then we have the May Beauty The Incredible Pore Strip – I mean, who doesn’t love using a pore strip?

Looking back over the last year, I really feel like this is the strongest of the 3 boxes. While the average is 3.4 which is 0.2 less than the Look Fantastic boxes, 7 of the months were above 4, and then 4 months were a bit diabolical… meaning on average this box is AWESOME

Have you received Glossybox this year? What did you think?

  1. I use to order glossy box when I was in college and then stopped, I just decided to order it again so fingers crossed it’s better than I remember it being! I loved reading this though, so true that the box fluctuates with how good the products are.

    1. It’s such a shame, because when these boxes are good, they’re amazing! Might continue with it later in the year… as (can’t believe I’m saying this in January) their advent calendar is amazing!
