One Year of Look Fantastic!

One Year of Look Fantastic Beauty Subscription Boxes

I’ve been getting these boxes for nearly a year now (I annoyingly started my subscriptions in February, but let’s go with it…) and I thought it was worth sitting down and deciding whether they were really worth it. I’ve actually stopped all my subscriptions while I save up to afford to live in my new place (YAY, London living), and I’m going to miss them, but I’m also going to carefully consider which one I resign up to!

So I’m starting with one of my favs – Look Fantastic. Little background on the box, this one was always the first to arrive and postage and packaging is free. However, it is the most expensive of the boxes I had last year at £15 a month

Overall Thought | Just very underwhelming as a first box…

FEBRUARY

February 2018… such a long time ago! Now I’ve got the ‘omg where has the year gone’ comment out the of way, it’s worth jumping straight into it. A very skincare heavy box the first month! I gave the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream away – not needing anti-ageing skincare yet.. However, the other skincare items – the Caudalie Vinosource SOS Thirst Quenching Serum, the Filorga Meso-Mask, the Dr Paw Paw Original Multipurpose Clear Balm and the Trifle Costmetics Sublime Lip Scrub in Sugar Pear – were all pretty good. Have to say.. kind of abandoned the Bella Pierre Shimmer Roller in Champagne… not really my thing

Overall Thought | Bit better… still a little underwhelming…

MARCH

Here you go, the box warmed up a bit… getting a little more interesting. The Skimono Foot Mask was actually really nice (it’s reminded me I want to try this again…), the Omorovicz Balancing Moisturiser wasn’t my favourite (too fragranced) but the packaging was divine! The Skinchemists Rose Quartz Lip Plump didn’t become my next best thing, but I loved trying it! I really wanted to try the oval brush trend, so loved getting the StyLondon Oval Face Brush. I did feel the Doucce Freematic Eye Shadow Duos were too small… and I once again passed on the anti-ageing product – the Renu Advance Anti-Ageing Flash Relax Mask.

Overall Thought | Getting there…

APRIL

I feel like this is the brand that just gets a little better every time… slowly but surely. The Pur Fully Charged Mascara was a great mini and I enjoyed it! The GlamGlow Supermud Clearing Treatments are always a welcome site! While not my thing, the Emma Hardie Morning Cleansing Balm and Dr Botanicals Vegan Bergamont & Poppy Seed Soap are both interesting little products to receive! The NUXE Creme Fraiche de Beaute was pretty good and I LOVED having the travel minis of the Nip + Fab Glycolic Daily Cleansing Pads – been refilling the mini case ever since!

Overall Thought | There you go! Some great products and some little gems in there

MAY

See what I mean? I LOVED this box. I loved how it had a good mix of skincare, makeup and other random stuff in here. The Avant RNA Serum was intense stuff! Left my skin feeling super clean! I’ve had a million of the This Works In Transit Camera Closeups… they’re a kind of standard moisturiser. The Skin Republic Bubble Purifying + Charcoal Face Sheet Mask was good fun, even if I found it didn’t do THAT much for my skin. The Sleek Makeup Face Contour Kit Medium is still in my collection – great product! Ditto with the Eyeko Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner! However, the standout for me was the Spotlight Whitening Strips! These things were amazing… I added them to my shopping basket on Boots once I’d finished, but they sold out… must look back into those again!

Overall Thought | This box just made me sad… bit of a waste of money

JUNE

So I lost the photo for this one, or never posted about it, not really sure what… However, I still remember receiving it. We’d gone backwards, to a very skin heavy box… The Madara SOS Hydra Moisture + Radiance Mask was very underwhelming, the Christopher Robin Cleansing Volumising Paste left my hair feeling TOO gritty, the Studio 10 Liquid Foil i-Radiance and the Vita Liberata Fabulous Self Tanning Tinted Lotion never really got used. However, the Elemis Superfood Facial Mask and the Rituals The Ritual of Duo Body Cream in this box were pretty good!

Overall Thought | Two stand out products, four nothing ones…

JULY

This just goes to show these boxes are SO up and down. While most of the box – including the Filorga UV Bronze After Sun, Lancer Hydrating Oil, Kerastase Reflection Bain Chromatique Shampoo and SVR Laboratoires Sebiaclear Gel Moussant Cleanser – didn’t leave much of an impression. Two products here saved the box on it’s own and one has been pretty much on my face every day ever since! First up the First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser! I LOVED this, such a great face wash and definitely one to add to my wishlist for 2019. And the real standout from this box, the Doucce Freematic Highlighter Mono in Sparked Ray! I freaking love this highlighter, it’s the perfect colour, the perfect formula and the perfect amount of highlighter-ness (if that makes sense). The packaging is a bit naff, but I can so look past that!

Overall Thought | Solid box, some good products!

AUGUST

I just love it when these boxes have makeup in – if you know of ones that are JUST makeup, do let me know. This month we had the Nails Inc Inc.Credible Glazin Over Lipgloss, and it was BEAUTIFUL! We also had the eeny weeny little Blink Brow Bar Mini Brow Build Indian Chocolate, which was also a great little (literally) find. Two good little skincare/wash products in the Molton Brown Bath  and Shower Gel and Balance Me Pure Skin Face Wash! Just getting round to using the Erno Laszlo Hydraphel Skin Supplement and I’ve been pretty impressed! However, the one product in here I really didn’t get was the MIO Boob Tube + Multi Action Bust Firmer.. why? Just why?

Overall Thought | Still a fairly good box, just not as good as last month

SEPTEMBER

Another month of ups and downs. Me and the Philip Kingsley Elastisizer don’t like each other, even thought I know this is a cult classic. The Lord & Berry Strobing Pencil is just… who uses these? While the Aromatherapy Associates Revive Morning Bath and Shower Oil is not really my kind of thing. However… however, however, however! The Omorovicza Ultramoor Mud Mask was divine… beautiful packaging, beautiful product, left your skin feeling super cleansed afterwards. I loved the fact you got to try the Eve Lom Cleanser, and I do kinda get the hype behind it. Then to top off, the Mane n Tail Original Hoof Maker Hand & Nail Cream is a pretty good hand cream!

OCTOBER

I really dislike it when these boxes have anti-ageing stuff in them… some of us are only 23! So I passed the Monu Night Renewal Complex on. While I bashed the Prai Throat & Decolletage Cream for its randomness, I actually really enjoyed it. The Dr Lipp Elderberry Lip Tint and Pixi Fresh Face Blush are both really nice products and I’m still using them for that natural flushed look! And then the Ahava Mineral Body Lotion and the Talika Bubble Mask Bio Detox were both OK products.

NOVEMBER

Seriously, I love when these boxes contain makeup! We have the well known Laura Gellar Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator, a brilliant little find in the Mellow Precision Pen Eyeliner and a great product from a brand I’ve never heard of in the Contour Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipstick. We also had a great little day cream from REN – the REN Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream – a Bubble T Look Fantastic Dark Wonder Bath Bomb and everyone’s favourite, an enzyme peel. These things are fascinating… try one! The Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel was pretty good.

Overall Thought | Pretty good box to finish the year! You will be missed

DECEMBER

The final month! Oh what a year! And a pretty good box to finish off the year! The This Works Deep Pillow Spray is always a welcome surprise.. especially as there are some nights I just can’t sleep! The Dr Botanicals Pomegranate Superfood Brightening Eye Serum is an interesting concept (it’s a liquid as opposed to a cream, but can’t wait try it)! I’ve always wanted to try the Illasmasqua Hydra Veil Primer and Look Fantastic Beauty Sponge. Also can’t wait to get stuck in with the Karl Lagerfeld Brow Pencil (I’ve been moving ok). The only slight let down is the Grow Gorgeous Scalp Detox.. it’s no secret I’m not so keen on this stuff.

OMG! What a year! My overall rating is for the whole year is 3.6 out of 5. Overall, I’ve been pretty impressed with these boxes, they have some great products in here… as well as some dud ones. But over the last year, this box has helped me try out some truly amazing products and I would recommend these boxes!

Have you ever received the Look Fantastic boxes?
