So Maybelline have launched two new highlighters; the Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter in Molten Gold and the Master Holographic Prismatic Highlighter in… Holographic. I feel like every brand now has a highlighter, and so many affordable options out there are insane. So I am always excited to try more.

These highlighters are £7.99 so not the cheapest out there, but in no way shape or form expensive.

So I have two shades here. The molten gold shade would look stunning on deeper skin tones, but it just too dark for me…. HOWEVER, it does make a stunning eyeshadow topper and, if you are of a darker skin tone you NEED this. It’s buttery, pigmented, blinding and super pretty. It also doesn’t emphasis your skin texture at all. I mean, on me, it gives me a gold stripe down my face… but putting that aside (as it’s not a fault of the product), this is super pretty!

The second colour joins the trends of ‘holographic’ makeup that… guess what?… is not actually holographic. I mean it’s a super pretty highlight that is white and reflect a sort of purple colour, but it is not holographic. I’m slightly annoyed that the formula of this is not the same as the master chrome highlighter… I mean the base of the product is very similar, but this is full of a lot of glitter. It’s fairly finely milled, so if this doesn’t bother you, then that’s fine. But I really don’t want glitter on my face, it’s just not for me. I prefer that wet look highlight (more like the master chrome) than the super glittery and shimmery highlight (like the master holographic).

There’s also a shade called Molten Rose Gold in the master chrome formula, but this is even darker. I think I will sit (not so) patiently waiting for a super pale colour in the master chrome collection, and when that comes out I will be all over that! Until then, I honestly think I will pass on both of these.

However, molten gold would be stunning on dark skin, and master holographic is super pretty if you don’t mind a bit of glitter…. and you can get over the fact it’s not holographic.

Have you tried this? If so, what are your thoughts?

  1. I have the Molten Rose Gold and the Molten Gold and I actually find that the Molten Rose Gold works nice for me right now, while the Molten Gold is a tad too dark (but should work better in summer) 🙂

    1. I am super pale (literally the lightest shade in every foundation… and sometimes that isn’t even light enough), so it’s just too dark for me. However, the formula is amazing!

  2. It’s such a shame the holographic one isn’t holographic haha! I’ve heard so many good things about M Maybelline highlighters, so I’ll definitely check out the others, and give these ones a miss xx
