I’m not actually one to do anything on Valentines Day… not because I’m single, or hate the idea, or anything like that. It’s just Valentines Day is one of those things I don’t think needs to exist… like Mother’s Day… you should tell the person you love that you love them whenever you can/want/all the time – just as you should tell your mother, father, carer or whoever how you really do appreciate everything they have ever done for you.
Putting all that aside, I do like the whole natural, soft, pink look that Valentines Day makeup is associated with. As makeup as taken such a boom in the last decade or so, Pink can really be elegant, sophisticated and beautiful without being too girly. And, to be honest, I often find myself gravitating towards this look. But I thought I would share it with you anyway.
For base you want to go with something that feels and looks lighter and more natural on the skin. Your other half should love you for everything you are, and while it is nice to get dolled up, you don’t need to cake it on for the person who sees you first thing in the morning (which, let’s face it.. is not always the most flattering time).
For this I have been loving my favourite combination of base products; the Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation, Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer, Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer (for those pesky blemishes), and the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder. Together, these create the perfect satin, natural, well covered but easy to wear base.
To add colour back into my face I ALWAYS use by Max Factor Creme Bronzer in Light Gold. I just love how this makes my skin look – so healthy! I add a beautiful blush in with the combination of the three shades from the Rimmel Kate Moss Blush Palette and then round the whole thing off with a stunning glow from the New Look Baked Highlighter in Pink Pearl
The eyes are soft and delicate. For this I have been loving my Max Factor Nude Palette in 03 Rose Nudes. I use the 3 shades just off-centre from this palette (the dusky rose, rose-gold/copper and the skin tone) to make a nice subtle look to the eye. Very gentle. And then add the Revlon Colorstay Creme Eyeshadow in Creme Brulee into the inner third of the eye for that very pretty sheen. No eyeliner – this is not the look that needs it – so straight on to one of my favourite mascaras at the moment: the L’Oreal X Fibre Mascara. This provides great length, and definition and a fairly good curl. And, essentially it gives you that very pretty fluttery look you would want for a valentines date.
For brows… yup, you guessed it, the Maybelline Brow Satin Pencil and a clear brow gel (this time the Maybelline Brow Drama in Translucent) make the perfect combination for perfect looking brows.
Finish the look off with a mauvy/pink/nude, and you’re set to go – currently I have been loving the NYX Lip Lingerie lipsticks especially in the shade Exotic
Such a pretty and wearable look, and one that I’ve been finding myself wearing A LOT. What are your favourite looks for Valentines? Or are you not celebrating it? Let me know!
