Who doesn’t love Chocolate and something miniature? I know I certainly do! Pack them into one miniature palette and you’re onto a winning formula. This is the first item I’ve ever owned from Too Faced and I’ve heard nothing but good things about both their packaging and their formula so I was more than excited to try something for myself.

It’s a palette that includes 11 matte shades (hence the name), 4 of which we’ve seen before from Too Faced, the rest are new shades, often matte version of pre-existing shades. The palette is mostly of a warm, earthy nature with warm browns, and greens and a few subtle pinks and purples. The shade names all have super sweet names, which is think is a lovely little touch, and are as follows;

White Chocolate (Repromote from the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette)
Matte Gilded Ganache
Triple Fudge (Repromote from the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette)
Matte Marzipan
Semi-Sweet (Repromote from the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette)
Strawberry Bon Bon (Repromote from the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette)
Matte Candied Violet
Matte Hazelnut
Matte Creme Brulee
Matte Cherry Cordial
Matte Champagne Truffle

The packaging, as you would expect is adorable. The palette is smaller than my phone (Samsung Galaxy S7) and not that much bigger than your average credit card. The pan sizes, while not huge, are more than generous. And, for such a small palette, it comes with a more than generous mirror. The packaging is plastic, and sweet. Perfect for travel.

On first open you are presented with a very strong scent of chocolate. Which makes a change from the classic plastic, almost playdough scent of most eyeshadow palettes. Although obviously a complete gimic, I actually really enjoy the scent and feel like it’s a nice little touch – although obviously nothing new, as every Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette in all its variations smell of chocolate.

The colours are all very wearable matte shades, with a range of light, mid and dark tones. So far so good.

Then we talk about the formula. For a relatively expensive palette (considering its size) at £22 I would have expected it to at least match that of my favourite drugstore palettes, and hopefully excel…

However, as you can see from the swatches below, the eyeshadows are very powdery, slightly patchy and some of them don’t pack the pigment I would have expected from a Too Faced palette. My favourites, however, are definitely Semi-Sweet (4th from the right) and Matte Crème Brulee (3rd from the left). When worked with in small layers, and blended well, these shadows do create a range of eyeshadow looks from the super natural to the more smokey. They’re not the easiest shadows to apply, but they do last well on the eyes.

Overall, I have to say, I’m not overly impressed. There are definitely eyeshadow palettes out there that are better (Zoeva, Morphe, ABH for e.g.) and palettes that you can get for much cheaper than are of a similar quality (MUA, Revolution). However, the colours are very pretty and right up my street and can be worked with, and the palette is ideal for travelling. So, I am definitely not giving up on it!

Have you tried this? If so, what were thoughts?

  1. I just got the Too Faced Peanut Butter and Jelly palette for Christmas and I’m LOVING it! I was thinking about getting another one of their palettes, so thank you for this review so I know to give this one a miss! X
