Holy Grail Makeup Items 2017

Well, on the first day of 2018… Happy New Year. And while we journey on into a new year, we reflect upon the last – the favourites of 2017. Wittling down your entire collection to just one singular favourite from each category is no mean feat. But I thought I would try… so here are my favourites of each category for 2017. There really are some real favourites here…

Primer | Smashbox Photofinish Foundation Primer

I’ve finished one of these and well on my way through another. I feel like this is a great primer for everything you need a primer to do – smooth, prolong and make application easier.

Foundation | Bourjois City Radiance Foundation

I love this foundation as it provides a good amount of coverage, with a natural finish. It’s neither too matte or too glowy. It’s easy to apply, and long lasting. Plus, the lightest colour matches me really well.

Under Eye Concealer | Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer

This is the perfect under-eye concealer. It’s medium coverage concealer that feels super light on the skin… making it perfect for that delicate under-eye area.

Concealer | Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

I feel like this is a classic for everyone. High coverage, long lasting, easy to blend… and super cheap!

Powder | Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot Powder

It was between this and the Rimmel Stay Matte. And while I love each of them equally, I think this has the upper edge because the packaging doesn’t shatter after a matter of seconds.

Bronzer | Max Factor Creme Bronzer in Light Gold

Another one where it was between this and one other; this time the Body Shop Honey Bronzer. However, I think this has the upper edge because it makes me look so healthy and alive as well as bronzing and giving colour to the face.

Blusher | Model Co Blush in Cosmopolitan

I’m not the biggest wearer of blush, but this is definitely the most worn blush of the year. It’s just a classic blush colour.

Highlighter | New Look Baked Highlighter in Pink Pearls

I feel like this is a stunning highlighter for all occasions. It can either be worn fairly naturally, or very easily layered up to be a stunning and blinding highlight.

Brow | Maybelline Brow Satin Pencil

Only the brow product ever, let alone 2017. I’ve owned about 5 of these over the last year, and use them (without fail) every day. The colour matches me perfectly, it’s easy to use, looks natural but filled out, and generally looks amazing

Eyebrow Gel | GOSH Brow Gel in Clear

It’s a brow gel that just works. It comes in opaque packaging, meaning you can’t see the disgusting gloop that forming inside.

Creme Eyeshadow | Maybelline ColorTattoos

I have to say I don’t use creme eyeshadows all that much. However, when I do, like everyone else in the world, I use the Maybelline ColorTattoos.

Eyeshadow | MAC Palette

I have a lot of favourite eyeshadow palettes (full blog post coming soon)… however, the one worn most throughout 2017, for nearly all of 2017, would definitely be the MAC Palette. I have a 3×3 palette full of warm neutrals (my favourites), and you can read about mine here

Eyeliner | Soap and Glory Supercat Eyeliner

I used to wear eyeliner everyday, however it’s slowly becoming a less frequent occurrence. However, if I’m to wear one, then it will be this one: easy to apply, long lasting, super black, and for under a tenner. Can’t go wrong.

Mascara | Benefit Rollerlash

To be honest, I a so fickle with mascara that I’ve had a number of favourites throughout the year… however, this is definitely a good one!

Lipstick | MAC Lipstick in Faux

This is hands down my favourite lipstick. Bought for my 21st Birthday by my best friend, and it’s stuck by me (like her) ever since. A nude that is easy to wear and easy to apply.

Lipgloss | Max Factor Lip Lacquer in Chocolate Nectar

Another nude (shock!), which is even more comfortable to wear than the MAC lipstick. It has a glossy finish, but isn’t sticky, and it very pigmented considering it’s texture.

Setting Spray | Revolution Makeup Setting Spray

Setting spray is something I only got into in the latter part of the year.. and for £5, this is definitely a steal. It does the job, and nothing more, that’s all you need.

What are your favourites of 2017?

  1. I love the Benefit hoola bronzer! and Mac Cosmetics Pro Long Wear foundation 🙂 Great post! I love it! Thank you for sharing you favourite 🙂
I would love for you to check out my latest post and blog xx

    1. I love Hoola too, just prefer the Max Factor one 😂
And I’ve never tried that foundation, but I’ve heard great things about it… so think I might try it 🤔

  2. I need a concealer that is easier to apply. I’ve been using one by NXY, but it takes work to smooth on. Afterwards my under eye skin looks stretched .

    1. I’ve never tried any concealers by NYX so I can’t comment on them, however, most the concealers I love don’t come in many dark shades… however, have you tried the L’Oreal True Match concealer? Comes in loads of shades 🙂 and it’s a nice concealer 🙂
