At £40, this palette is not cheap. But let’s face it, when you work out how much you’ve spent on your Mac palette… anything is cheap! The Violet Voss Holy Grail palette is one of those forever loved palettes that people talk about. Not quite to the level of, say, Anastasia Modern Renaissance. But it’s up there.

The packaging is sort of holographic cardboard with a mirror and 20 shades inside. It kind of feels luxury, but I have to say, I wish all palettes came in plastic packaging. It’s just so much more durable!

The colour range is GORGEOUS! As a fan of warm neutrals, with a burnt copper/red tone to them, this palette had me going in all the right places. There are some stunning crease shades (like Bestie), darker, more smokey shades (like Teddy Bear), some rich deep colours (like Wine and Dine), some beautiful shimmer shades (like Toffee) and a beautiful brow bone highlighter (Crystal for matte or Proof for shimmer). The colours all complement each other very well, and nothing looks out of place.

However, I also feel like nothing in this palette is revolutionary. I’ve seen basically all of these colours before, and there are a heck of a lot of palettes out there with a similar colour palette, for a lot less.

Colour selection aside, the formula of these shadows is beautiful. The mattes are pigmented, blendable, and buildable. They last a long time, and are just easy to work with. And the shimmer shades work really well wet or dry, giving just the right amount of light to wherever they’re placed.

Impressive stuff. And while the price still makes me cringe a little inside, it’s definitely one I love and one I use, and I would recommend it.

Have you tried this palette? If so, what were your thoughts?

  1. I love the colours of this palette but find that the matte shadows don’t have the best payoff. you have to work quite hard and everything is a lot lighter swatched than in the palette x

    1. Mine seemed to work ok, it wasn’t quite as impressive as (say) the Anastasia Modern Renaissance palette… but it was ok… it just isn’t worth the price tag :/

  2. Those shades are absolutely beautiful!! But I wish there were just a few darker shades so the palette would look somehow… complete 😀

  3. I have this palette I think it’s fab! You’re right it’s nothing revolutionary but if someone was wanting their first warm toned palette i’d send them to Violet Voss x
