Unfortunately I am one of those poor souls born with skin that’s prone to getting spots – probably not helped by my obsession with Chocolate, but we’ll ignore that. So over the last (nearly) 10 years I have tried a lot of spot treatments out there! Every time I speak to someone about this they tell me to use toothpaste, and I’ve tried it! Yes, I went to bed with spots of toothpaste on my face, and yes, I once answered the door like it too. However, this dried out my face, drastically, and I end up with really flakey skin around where the spot was, and so I moved on from that very quickly. So here is what I found out works for me.
Boots Distilled Witch Hazel
Witch hazel is a topical astringent derived from the bark and leaves of Hamamelis virginiana, the common or North American witch-hazel shrub. This is a herbal remedy recognised world-wide as a natural cleanser and toner, but witch hazel has many more uses than simply to clarify skin and shrink pores. Which, I am yet to know, but I will let you know how I use it.
So I clean my face and use toner as normal, and then I put a bit of this onto a cotton pad and wipe it over the places of my face where I have or usually break out (usually chin and like high cheek bones). This helps to completely clean the skin and remove any bacteria that would cause spots. It’s a tad drying, so I use this at night time before putting on my night cream (which is heavily moisturising, while my day cream is more gentle). However it leaves your skin feeling super fresh – and who doesn’t love that?!
No.7 Rapid Spot Rescue
This is a clear gel you put over your spots before you go to sleep and leave it there all night. It doesn’t make them disappear instantly, but it does drastically decrease the redness and the spot is visibly clearer when you wake up in the morning. This product, obviously, doesn’t prevent spots, but it helps massively when they’re there. It’s not the cheapest spot cream, at £9.95 from Boots, but it’s still very affordable and this cream will last forever – I’ve had this tube a few months now and there’s still plenty of product left.
Used together I have found that these products have seriously improved my skin! I still get spots unfortunately, but they now disappear in a matter of days, rather than weeks, and I never go anywhere without them anymore! I just thought you would be interested in what I do when I have one of those pesky spots!
